Installing a new lawn in winter

You want to lay some new lawn but you aren’t sure if winter is the right time? Well you’re in luck, laying new lawn during the cooler months has many benefits.
There is a common misconception that installing a new warm season turf like Sir Walter DNA Certified or TifTuf Bermuda cannot be done in cool conditions. In truth, turf is installed successfully all year round anywhere in Australia. Particularly in our area of Southern NSW and the ACT, cold winters put a doubt in our mind about laying a new lawn but it doesn’t have to be this way.
By laying lawn during the cooler months, you will use less water (almost half) as you will not have to irrigate your new lawn anywhere near as much compared with the warmer months. Unlike Spring and summer, the days aren’t as hot, meaning your turf will not dry out as much and you can still maintain a healthy lawn come spring time.
Another benefit is that you won’t have to mow your lawn as regularly, saving you time to instead spend it playing winter sports and activities. Keep in mind, during winter your lawn will sit idle and not root down properly until the weather warms up. This doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong, it’s just waiting to fully establish come spring.
By installing turf now in winter you will have a fully established lawn in time for summer. Why wait, get a head start now and beat the spring rush!
